SGM Albert J. McJunkins was born in Pickens, South Carolina. He graduated from Liberty High School in Liberty, South Carolina. In April 1984, he enlisted in the United States Army. He was assigned as a 19D Cavalry Scout to the One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at Fort Knox, Kentucky.

In February 1984, he became an 11B. SGM McJunkins is an Infantry Sergeant Major who has served in many leadership positions to include all Infantry leadership positions, Drill Sergeant, and Platoon Observer Controller. He has filled many demanding and challenging assignments with HHC 6/31st Infantry and 11th ACR, Fort Irwin, California; Garlstedt, Germany; 3/325 AIR, Fort Bragg, North Carolina; Katusa Training Academy, Korea; B Co 1/327, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Combat Maneuver Training Center, Hohenfels, Germany; HHC and B Co 1/11 INF, Fort Benning, Georgia; and 1ID, Afghanistan.

SGM McJunkins' deployments include Desert Storm and Operation Enduring Freedom. His current assignment is working as the Garrison SGM for Camp AFRIJAN, Kuwait.

His military education includes: Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officer Course, First Sergeant Course, Battle Staff Course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. He also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy University, Troy Alabama.

His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with four oak leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, the Good Conduct Medal(9th Award), the Global War on Terrorism Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three bronze stars, Korean Defense Service Medal with one cluster, the NATO Medal, the Overseas Ribbon (Numeral 4), Meritorious Unit Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal 2 Oak Leaf Clusters, Noncommissioned Officer Development Ribbon (4 Awards), Saudi-Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Air Assault Badge, Drivers Badge, and Drill SGT Badge.
