LTC Frederick Bower, Jr. graduated
from Gannon University in 1990 with a B. S. in General Science. He
was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Field Artillery in May,
1990.
In 1991, LTC Bower was assigned to
Schofield Barracks, Hawaii where he served in the 2nd Battalion
11th Field Artillery and F Battery 7th Field Artillery of the 245h
Infantry Division (L). He served as a Company Fire Support Officer,
Fire Direction Officer, and Battery Executive Officer.
In 1994, LTC Bower was assigned to
1st Battalion 17th Field Artillery in Lawton, Oklahoma, where he
served as Assistant Operations Officer and Commander of Charlie
Battery.
In 1999, LTC Bower was assigned to
2nd Battalion 215th Regiment as the Alpha Company Commander and
Observer/ Controller-Trainer in New Cumberland, Pennsylvania. He
then served as the Battalion Operations officer and Senior
Observer/Controller-Mentor.
From 2003 to 2007, LTC Bower was
assigned to the Division Artillery, 1st Armored Division, Federal
Republic of Germany. While assigned there LTC Bower held the
following duties, Division Assistant Fire Support Coordinator,
Operations Officer for the Governance Support Team (CPA Baghdad),
Brigade Fire Support Officer, Division Artillery Assistant
Operations Officer, 2BDE Public Affairs Officer, Operations Officer
and Executive Officer for 4th Battalion 27th Field Artillery.
During this assignment LTC Bower conducted two Operational tours to
Iraq in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM.
Prior to becoming the Deputy
Commanding Officer for Area Support Group Kuwait, LTC Bower was
assigned to the Training and Doctrine Command as the Liaison
Officer to the British Army, duty with the Operational and Training
Advisory Group (OPTAG) from 2007 until August 2011.
LTC Bower has completed the Field
Artillery Officer Basic and Advanced Courses at Fort Sill,
Oklahoma, Joint Targeting School at Dam Neck, Virginia, the Command
and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and received a
Masters in Administration from Central Michigan University.
LTC Bower's awards and decorations
include the Bronze Star (1 OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (3 OLC),
the Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), the Joint Service Achievement
Medal, the Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), the Meritorious Unit
Commendation (1OLC), the National Defense Service Medal with Bronze
Star Device, the Iraqi Campaign Medal (2CS), the Global War on
Terrorism- Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism-
Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, The Overseas Ribbon
(Numeral 5), the 1st Armored Division Combat Patch, the Parachutist
Badge and the Air Assault Badge.
LTC Bower is married and has four
children.
