Sergeant Major Melvin D. Johnson was
born in Newport News, Virginia. He entered into the United States
Army in November 1983, attending Basic Training at Fort Dix, NJ and
Advanced Individual Training at Fort Lee, VA, as a Logistics
Automation Specialist. SGM Johnson's assignments include: 514th
Maintenance Company, Fort Knox, KY; Headquarters and Headquarters
Company, United States Army Field Station (SINOP) Turkey; 536th
Maintenance Company, Schofield Barracks, HI; Headquarters and
Headquarters Company, 5th ID, Division Support Command, Fort Polk,
LA and 4th ID, Division Support Command, Fort Hood, TX; B Company
302nd Forward Support Battalion, 2ID Camp Casey, Korea; First
Sergeant at 100 Area Support Group, Grafenworh, Germany; served as
the Operations Sergeant Major for the Combat Support BN, HHC 3rd ID
Division Support Command Fort Stewart, GA; SGM in Headquarters 3rd
Army (ARCENT G-4). SGM Johnson is presently serving as the Garrison
SGM for Camp Arifjan, Area Support Group - Kuwait.
SGM Johnson is a graduate of the
Primary, Basic, and the Advanced Non-commissioned Officer Courses
and a graduate of Class 59 of the United States Sergeants Major
Academy. His civilian education is a Bachelor of Science from
Excelsior College.
SGM Johnson's Awards include: Bronze
Star Medal (1 OLC); Meritorious Service Medal (1OLC); Army
Commendation Medal (2OLC); Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC); and the
Drivers Badge.
